Boho Chevron Bag Remix

Have you ever made a crochet project from a pattern and then added your own little touch?

That's what the Designer Remix Event hosted by Kirsten Holloway Designs is all about! 12 designers have gotten together to remix each other's designs! We picked a pattern we liked, added our own little twist, and we're sharing the new addition with you!

I chose to remix the Boho Chevron Purse from Salty Pearl Crochet! This little bag is so cute; I could see endless possibilities with it!

I thought of many ideas, but in the end, I decided to keep the similar boho feel, with just a few small changes!

First of all, the color! I went with black because I wanted to give it a bit of a retro 80's twist! I knew I could easily incorporate bright or neon colors to give it that feel.

Head over to the Salty Pearl Crochet Boho Chevron Purse pattern and work rows 1-27 in all Black (I used Caron Simply Soft). NOTE: I did shorten the bag a bit here, but you can continue until row 33 or add more rows if you want a deeper bag. We will add the beads to the very last row.

Second, I chose to add pony beads! Adding beads to crochet can be lots of fun, and with my simple instructions, you can easily add beads to your crochet projects too. NOTE: This is a different technique than usually taught, but if you've done bead work before, you can use the traditional method as well.

You will continue working the pattern repeat as usual, but we will add beads in between!

Here are the instructions:
Dec, add a bead, *dc x 3, add a bead* 4X,
In next space where you add 3 dc you will work: dc x 2, add a bead, dc
Then you will work the beginning instructions backwards: *add a bead, dc x 3* 4X, dec, add a bead, sl st to same space a dec; Fasten.

How to add the beads:
Remove hook from loop after you've completed the stitch, slip bead over the loop, reinsert hook into look and continuing making stitches as instructed. SEE PHOTOS BELOW:

**After you finish this last row (beaded row), follow the instructions for seaming the bag from Salty Pearl Crochet's original post.

Third, I chose to keep the fringe, but make it a little different!

Cut 10 - 6" pieces of Black yarn. Place one fringe centered in the space between each bead.

And last, I decided to make an all crochet strap. I just used the double strand method and made a long change... super easy!

Holding two strands together, chain 75. Fasten off and sew to the top of each side seam.

So, what do you think?

I had a lot of fun with this remix and hope you'll join in and make one of your own!

I love seeing your finished projects, so come on over and join the Blackstone Designs Crochet Community on Facebook to show them off!
